Pune FC overcame a tough Salgaocar FC side to emerge 1-0 victorious in an I-League Round 15 encounter at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Speaking at the post-match Press Conference, Pune FC Coach Karim Bencherifa praised his team’s performance while discussing various things about the match.

When asked about his overall views about the game, Coach Bencherifa explained, “If you see, there was little lack of coordination in the attacking front. We lacked a bit of fitness too. You can get this coordination and the rhythm by playing matches as I have said before. There is improvement but the players in the attack are not that sharp and hopefully we can change it. But take nothing away from the team. We played our heart out to get those three points. The other things apart from match fitness and coordination are the pressure and self-confidence which are also important. Because when you are winning consistently, your confidence will grow but at the same time it will drop and the pressure will increase if don’t win for a long time.”

Speaking about the pressure he said, “We had some great chances and we didn’t take them the way we would have liked. There was a lot of pressure because we had to win this game. If we had been in the mid-table, the pressure would not have been there, but since we are up there, we knew we have to win to keep in touch with the leaders. This factor affected us a bit. But these are three welcome points and it gives a big confidence boost to the squad.”

He further added, “We weren’t out of the game. They created chances, more than us but we never gave up. We kept our composure and the players never gave up. We tried to create chances and were a bit worried about conceding, but I kept faith on the players and knew that the game was still on till it is 0-0. Let’s not forget Salgaocar had their best players on the field and we did not.”
