Pune FC ‘B’ ended their campaign in the PDFA Super Division League with a 0-3 loss to leaders DSK Shivajians ‘A’ in a Round-14 encounter at the DSK Football Field in Loni on Sunday.
The loss was Pune FC B’s first in fourteen games and ended their thirteen game unbeaten run. Meanwhile, with all teams awarded a win over B.E.G. who pulled out midway through the campaign, Pune FC ‘B’ finished the campaign in the fourth place with 34 points (10W-4D-1L).
Pune FC didn’t have a great start going into the game as they conceded a penalty in the fourth minute after keeper Anuj Kumar brought down a rival in the box while trying to correct his mistake after failing to collect a long ball. Attacker Rohan Adnaik converted the spot kick for the hosts to give them a 1-0 lead.
Despite conceding early on, Pune FC regrouped and pushed forward through Aniket Jadhav, Buanthanglun Samte and Lalremruata. Striker Aniket managed to go close on a couple of occasions but lacked the killer finish.
Shivajians doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Cameroon forward Pierrick Dipanda bundled his way past Pune FC defender Gaurav Bora who lost his footing and smashed a quick shot past keeper Anuj.
Three minutes later, Shivajians’ increased their lead as Indrajit Chowghule slotted home from close capitalising on defender Tarif Akhand’s error.
Nonetheless, Pune FC attackers continued to push forward looking for a goal and even forced the Shivajians’ custodian into a couple of saves.
Late on in the game, Lalremruata came closest to get a consolation goal. Being sent into the clear in the rival half, the youngster tried to dodge a defender and the keeper but his shot was blocked after he delayed the attempt.
