Pune FC, the city’s first professional football club, has teamed up with Mundhwa-based the Orbis School for a school-level Under-14 Football tournament to be held on 17th and 18th April, 2015.
With the aim of promoting football at the grassroot level, both organisations have come together to build on their long standing association and give budding footballers a platform to showcase their talent.
With separate sections for boys and girls, the maiden edition of the Orbis-Pune FC Invitational Cup has attracted 20 school teams from all over the city across both sections. The tournament will be played in a league-cum-knockout basis at the Orbis School’s campus in Mundhwa.
The eight participants in the girls section have been divided into two groups of four each, with all schools playing a minimum of three matches. The top two teams from each group will then qualify for the semifinals.
In the boys section, twelve participating teams have been divided into four groups of three teams each. All schools will be playing a minimum of two matches in the group stage with the group winner qualifying for the semifinals.
Moving forward, both Pune FC and the Orbis School aim to expand the competition all over the city and hope to make it the largest school football league tournament in Pune.
