JN Petit, St. Thomas, Sinhagad Springdale, City International and SNBP Rahatni qualify for knockouts
Sinhagad Springdale duo Shrinivas Bhadane and Varun Makam along with SNBP Rahatni’s Nishil Pawar scored by the many and left a glimpse of the future rising on the second day of the inaugural Godrej Properties-Pune FC ‘The Futsal Cup 2015’ at the Freekick Turfs in Balewadi.
At the end of the day, six teams JN Petit High School (Group A), GG International (Group B), St. Thomas High School (Group D) Sinhagad Springdale, Ambegaon (Group H), City International School (Group K) and SNBP, Rahatni (Group P) joined Millennium High School, Vikhe Patil Memorial and Infant Jesus High School in the knockout stages.
On a day filled with goals, the star of the day was undoubtedly Shrinivas Bhadane of Sinhagad Springdale, Ambegaon. The youngster struck five times in their first round 8-1 win over SNBP, Yerawada and then followed up with a six goal effort against Pawar Public School, Magarpatta to take his tally to eleven and top the goalscorer’s chart.
In the meantime his teammate Varun Makam made the move up the top scorers chart netting eight in the same two games as Sinhagad moved into the knockouts. Interestingly, Sinhagad’s 12-1 win over Pawar Public was the biggest of the competition till now.
The standout performance in the afternoon session came from SNBP, Rahatni’s Nishil Pawar who scored nine times, four against Ornellas and five against The Orbis School, Mundhwa, to send his side into the knockouts. The youngster thus moved up to second place in the top scorer’s list.
The second day of the competition also saw increased participation from players in the Under-10 category with a total of seven players finding the back of the net. The youngest of the lot was Pawar Public School, Magarpatta’s Omkar Nagre at 9 years old followed by Rishabh Sharma (Indira National School), Atharva Dake (Sinhagad Springdale, Ambegaon), Abhishek Sarwad (SNBP, Yerawada), Ameya Bhosale (Vibgyor High, Magarpatta), Archit Joshi (Vibgyor High, Balewadi) and Mihir Shelke (GG International).
Interestingly, Indira National School’s eight-year-old striker Arav Sable was the youngest player to feature on Day 2 of the competition.
