Pune FC Under-17’s ended their campaign in the Ashok Vanjari Memorial Cup with a 0-2 quarterfinal loss to Deccan Rovers FC at the DSK Football Field in Loni on Friday.
The opponents scored once in each half through Liandela Sena (1st minute) and T. Lalnunpuia (53rd) to grab the win.
Pune FC began the game on the backfoot after conceding in the very first minute. Deccan capitalised on the napping defense with Liandela heading home a freekick from the right flank.
Forced to chase the game, Pune FC began pushing forward looking for the equaliser. However, with Deccan defending deep, Pune FC were restricted to a handful of chances with striker Lalawmpuia going the closest as the half ended 0-1.
The second half was a similar story with Pune FC pushing up looking for an opening.
Just when Pune FC began getting close, a rival attacker capitalised on a misplaced pass from defender Sahil Panwar to set up his teammate Lalnunpuia to head home from close and double their lead.
At the other end, Pune FC had a few great attempts from Omega V, Lalawmpuia and Buanthunglal Samte late on, but the opponents managed to hold on to a 2-0 win.
