Velington Rocha is a perfect example of the old saying, ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way”! He is a very calm, composed, matured and level-headed individual. One who not only has clear goals, expectations and dreams but also the one who will find a way to achieve them!

The Goan’s tryst with football started right from the time he was studying at Bethany Convent High School located in Sao Jose de Areal. Pursuing his mission and dream Velington, in Goa, pushed himself with the Sporting Clube de Goa youth set up for four years as a right half.

Confident after his stint at Sporting Clube de Goa, he decided to move out and join the Pune FC Under-19s in 2009. Always striving hard to put in his best, Rocha was very clear in his head about his priorities. When for some reason, he couldn’t match the club’s expectations, he decided to head back home. The one-year break he took and his return to the squad is ample proof of how determined he is to reach his ultimate aim.

At the start of the 2011-12 season, the midfielder went back to Goa and joined Margao SC, where he put in a string of impressive performances which impressed everyone at Pune FC who tracked his progress. Rocha returned to Pune FC at the start of the 2012-13 season after the one year break. It was then, that he made his first team debut for the club and also featured quite a few times during the course of the season. The high point for him was that he was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the All India Gold Cup when he turned out for the Pune FC Reserves.

In spite of his overall composed demeanour, this twenty-two year old gets a bit sentimental when he talks about his family. That’s because of the void he feels after his father’s demise in 2004. Having overcome the grief, he sorely misses his mother as he attempts to pursue his aim – being a professional footballer. And with his exceptional levels of commitment and dedication to the cause, one just can’t help but think that he will surely achieve all his goals with time.

Apart from football, though Rocha is not a big fan of watching movies and listening to music, he does like to have a few light moments with the tennis racket occasionally.
