Keeping in line with the emphasis on coupling youth and experience, Pune FC signed Anthony D’Souza in June 2013. The twenty-six-year-old who primarily operates as a left winger is known for his skills, pace, trickery and also has a penchant for scoring goals.
Born in Siolom, Goa, Anthony is a product of the Sesa Football Academy. He joined Sporting Club de Goa in 2006 and went on- loan for the 2007-08 season at a local Goan club, Velsao Pale before returning back to Sporting.
In 2009-10 season, Anthony made his I-league debut with Sporting and also managed to get on the score sheet to make his mark. Unfortunately, Sporting were relegated to the second division in that season. Showing his loyalty towards the club who provided him the stage to display his talent, Anthony stayed back at Sporting and helped the club fight back and earn promotion in 2011.
In the 2011-12 season, Anthony bagged 5 goals which included 2 braces as he finished the season as the third highest goal scoring Indian midfielder behind the likes of Clifford Miranda and Lalrindika Ralte.
In his later years at Sporting, D’Souza remained a key member of the side, always a constant threat to the oppositions with his dribbling, creativity, assists and goal-scoring form.
Having joined Salgaocar FC last season, he began the season with a bang! He lit up the 2012 Federation Cup as he scored in all 3 group games. As a result, he ended up being the top scoring Indian in the group stage and the second top scoring Indian in the entire tournament. Having begun the season with a flourish, disaster struck as he got injured in the opening I-League encounter itself which led him to miss the first half of the season.
Anthony, however, made his comeback in the latter half of the season making three I-League appearances for Salgaocar.
Now in his first season at Pune FC, Anthony, who’ll incidentally be playing for a club based out of Goa for the first time in his life, hopes to work hard and help Pune FC achieve success!
