Pune FC Under-19s and Women’s Team ‘A’ were felicitated at the Poona District Football Association’s Annual General Meeting held at the SM Joshi Hall on Tuesday.
The function held by the PDFA culminated the end of the 2014-15 season, with the association handing out various prizes, including cash awards, to teams as well as individuals who excelled at various levels.
Pune FC, the city’s first professional club, were felicitated in three different categories which included two team recognitions along with an individual award.
First up, the Women’s ‘A’ team who finished second in the historic first-ever PDFA Women’s League were presented with a Runners-Up trophy and a cash award.
Furthermore, youngster Vedangi Kulkarni who represented the ‘A’ side in the women’s division was adjudged the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ and received a memento which was handed over by chief guest. Interestingly, the young lass was the only Pune FC player to bag an individual award.
Meanwhile, Pune FC Under-19s were felicitated after finishing runners-up in the Under-19 I-League Final Phase which was held in Pune for the first time earlier this year. The two-time former champions were the highest finishers not only from the city but also from the state in this year’s competition.
At the local level, both Pune FC ‘A’ (Under-19s) and Pune FC ‘B’ (Under-17s) had a strong campaign in the Super Division this year and finished in the third and fourth position respectively narrowly missing out on the top-two spots.
