Pune FC ‘B’ came back from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw against Deccan Rovers FC in a PDFA Super Division League Round-7 encounter at the DSK Football Field on Sunday.
Played in the gruelling March heat at the DSK artificial turf in Loni, striker Buanthanglun scored Pune FC B’s only goal in the 33rd minute in a hard fought clash.
The draw was Pune FC B’s third in the campaign as they stretched their unbeaten run to seven games. Having split points, they dropped down to the second place in the table with 15 points behind leaders Pune FC ‘A’ (17 pts).
Courtesy of an experienced team, Deccan began to push Pune FC right from the opening minutes. But, Pune FC were determined to prove that they were not pushovers and began replying with a staunch defence and blistering counter attacks.
However for all the resistance, it was Deccan which opened the scoring in the 17th minute courtesy of a melee of players jostling for the ball. One of them managed a low shot past the Pune FC custodian and the result saw Deccan go up by one goal. Pune FC however continued to push forward and attack.
In the 33rd minute Pune FC earned a corner. The subsequent ball in came to Buanthanglun who calmly slotted it in diagonally past the Deccan Rovers custodian.
While both the teams continued to push thereafter and well into the second half, they couldn’t go past the defences on either sides. Deccan did try to race through the opposition but to no avail. Pune FC’s defence was up to the task and held them off comfortably. On the other hand Pune FC’s strikers encountered a similar situation when they came up against the Deccan Rovers defence before the game ended 1-1.
