Pune FC ‘B’ were held to a 1-1 draw by CMS Falcons in a PDFA Super Division League Round-5 encounter at the DSK Football Field on Saturday.
Playmaker Omega V (61st minute) scored the only goal for Pune FC ‘B’ through a penalty in the game played in rainy conditions.
Despite splitting points, Pune FC ‘B’ (11 pts, GD: +16) moved to the top of the table ahead of Pune FC ‘A’ (11 pts, GD: +12) on goal difference.
Pune FC ‘B’ dominated proceedings from the very start but fell short in the final third. Striker Abhishek Mhaske had the best chance of the half when he was set up by Kiran Saravanan in the box. Even though he beat the defenders by running in, Abhishek was unable to beat the keeper as he shot it straight towards him.
The two teams went into the half with a 0-0 scoreline.
Having put continuous pressure on the rival goal, Pune FC were finally rewarded in the 61st minute. Medio Sajid Hossain’s shot on the goal was handled by a Falcons’ defender and the referee pointed to the spot. Substitute Omega, who came in at half time, stepped up and slotted the ball home to give Pune FC a well deserved win.
However, there was late drama in the game Falcons earned a corner in the 89th minute. Their sole shot on target from the corner saw their central defender run in and time a powerful header perfectly which found the back of the Pune FC ‘B’ goal. While the game looked set to end as a draw, which it eventually did, Amos Lalnienga was shown a red card for a foul on an opponent in the final minutes.
