Pune FC ‘B’ overcame Bishop’s FC ‘A’ 1–0 in their pre-quarterfinal clash of the Lahu Mama Shelar Dehu Road Football Tournament at the Railway Ground in Dehu Road on Tuesday.
In a 30-minute per half game, Pune FC created chances from the opening minute despite battling an uneven and bumpy ground conditions. Pemba Rai scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute.
Pune FC began creating scoring chances in the game from the opening minutes onwards. Attackers Abhishek Mhaske, Suleiman Kisku and Pemba continued to heckle the Bishop’s defence and custodian. In the ninth minute an early shot from Pemba caught the Bishop’s custodian off guard sending the ball into the goal.
Having taken the lead, Pune FC continued to attack but couldn’t make any more headway despite putting pressure on the opposition. Bishop’s on the other hand tried to use physicality, and a barrage of long balls but the Pune FC defence stood up to the task and managed to keep them at bay. Towards the end Bishop’s put a lot of men forward but were unable to breach the Pune FC goal.
Pune FC ‘B’ now take on DSK Shivajians ‘A’ in the quarterfinals of the competition on March 26.
