Pune FC ‘B’ suffered shootout heartbreak going down 2-4 to DSK Shivajians ‘A’ in the tie-breaker of the quarterfinal clash in the Lahu Mama Shelar Dehu Road Football Tournament at the Railway Ground near Dehu Road on Thursday.
The Pune FC ‘B’ team, consisting of the Club’s Under-17 players, were battling poor ground conditions as well as a senior DSK Shivajians team.
Nonetheless, Pune FC ‘B’ managed to defend as well as attack and take the fight back to Shivajians throughout the 60 minute length of the game. Shivajians tried to muscle their way in along with passing long balls but the Pune FC defence and custodian Debopriya Das were up to the task. In fact they attacked on the counter with Abhishek Mhaske almost making it through on a couple of occasions.
The game went into a penalty shootout after the score remained 0-0 at the end of regulation time. While Shivajians converted all their first four kicks, medio Omega V and striker Abhishek Mhaske were the only ones to convert from the spot for Pune FC ‘B’. Misses from Sunil Mane and Sahil Panwar meant Pune FC ‘B’ exited the competition at the quarterfinal stage.
