Sujay Sharma joined PFC along with Derrick Pereira at the start of the 2009 season, PFC’s 1st campaign in the Indian top-flight.
Having studied physics, Sujay transferred his passion to understand, to his favourite sport football. Along with having completed Match Analysis courses by The FA & coaching courses by the Premier League, he got a grounding into the nuances of the field under AFC Pro-Licensed Coach Derrick Pereira, under whom Sujay worked at Mahindra United for 3 seasons from 2005-08. He had started out at the Mumbai club at the age of 21 soon after Derrick had taken over the reins there.
Following his stint with Mahindra, Sujay took an opportunity to work with the Indian partners of ProZone (the world’s leading Match Analysis Software providers) for a year. It was here that he got invaluable hands-on experience at how top-clubs all over the world go about using Match & Player Analysis consisting of Data and Videos, to extract maximum possible crucial information to assist the coach & management.
During this year, Sujay had also consulted with Pune FC, as they were even then the only Indian team, despite being in the 2nd Division, considering taking on board use of Performance Analysis.
So with his mentor Derrick Pereira joining a club most keen in using such a service, it was an ideal scenario for Sujay to latch on to the opportunity to shift-base from Mumbai and settle down in Pune to work for PFC.
PFC have now also become the 1st club in South Asia to tie-up with ProZone and use the software used regularly by the Liverpools and Barcelonas of world football.
Labelled PFC’s ‘computer-man’, it is Sujay’s job to run-through the plethora of data, analyse lots of matches and videos, to prepare objective reports & requisite clips, to measures our own team’s performance, help assess & dissect opponents teams and players, both for scouting & recruitment purposes - as per requirements of the coach and management.
