Glen Johnson joined the coaching staff as a goalkeeping coach at the start of 2013-14 season. He has the unique honour of being Pune FC’s first ever goalkeeping coach.
A holder of the NSCAA Advanced National GK Licence as well as the IFA Advanced National GK Licence and SFA GK B Licence, Glen sure has the credentials for the job.
Essex-born Glen, is incidentally the third Britisher after Stewart Hall (Coach) and Bernard McNally (Coach) with a Senior team coaching assignment ever since Pune FC was incepted in 2007.
As a player, Glen represented Canvey Island where progressing through the club’s ranks, he made his first team debut at the age of 16. He later played for Maldon Town (2005) and Long Melford (2006) before returning to Canvey Island the following season. In the course of his second stretch with Canvey Island, he had loan spells with Aveley and then with Wingate & Finchley.
The twenty-seven year old started his professional coaching career at NASL-side Crystal Palace Baltimore(USA) in 2010. During the same period, he also worked as an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Goucher College in Baltimore.
Unfortunately, as Baltimore went out of business, Glen returned to England where he took up the position of First Team Goalkeeping Coach at Chelmsford City (5th Division) also working full time with the academy (Under-19) goalkeepers. Coaching youth teams (girls) for Parkville Premier and SAC United Wolves, he won the Maryland State Cup and Washington Area Girls Soccer Leagues U17 Division respectively.
Before coming to India, Glen returned to the USA to work with the goalkeepers at the Springfield Demize of the USL Premier Development League.
At Pune FC, Glen looks forward to work with the likes of Shahinlal Meloly, Arup Debnath and Amrinder Singh to help with their development as goalkeepers and that of the club as a whole.
