For L. Rintea, becoming a sportsman was always his destiny. An ace badminton player, Rintea didn’t start playing football seriously until the age of twelve, when he enrolled in the Benjamin Academy in Aizawl.
Encouraged by his family, which consists of his parents, elder brother and sister, the young Mizorami player honed his skills at the academy. However, it wasn’t until the chief coach at he academy, the coach, switched him from a forward to a centre-back, that his talent finally started flourishing.
An intelligent player with solid technique, he started blossoming as a central defender and earned a fearsome reputation in his village for his tackling and heading abilities.
After four years of training, his hard work finally bore fruit when Pune FC came calling for a trial in Mizoram. Rinte impressed the club’s coaches with his abilities and he was immediately called-up for another trial in Pune, where after training under the watchful eyes of PFC Head Youth Development, Ranjan Chowdhury, he was given a chance to join the academy.
The youngster, who is inspired and motivated by his family, hopes to one day represent India on the international stage and also dreams of one day turning out for Pune FC and pursue his career as a professional.
A Rio Ferdinand fan, the Mizorami defender hopes to inculcate the English defenders sound positioning sense in his game.
He also considers education a vital part of his development and is presently enrolled in 10th grade and is gearing up for his boards. Though he hopes to make it as a footballer , if his dreams in football are not fulfilled he feels that he also stands a good chance to make it as a badminton player!
When not playing football, Rintea likes to play basketball or a game of badminton. He also considers himself a FIFA pro and is always up for a game.
Besides sports, he likes to listen to a few selected Rock Bands, and feels that their music helps him relax after matches.
