Infosys kudos for champs Pune FC Under-20 I-League squad

As a mark of appreciation IT giants Infosys, Pune hosted and felicitated the title-winning Pune FC Under-20 I-League side at their campus in Hinjewadi on Friday.

For Pune FC the title was a first at all levels since its inception in 2007 and also provided Infosys ample reason to recognize youth, which was their vision when they came on board as sponsors of the club at the beginning of 2011-12 season.

At the formal function attended by Mr. Mritunjay Singh, Vice President and Head, Infosys Pune Development Centre, Chirag Tanna, Pune FC Head Operations, Ranjan Chowdhury, Pune FC Head of Youth Development, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Pune FC General Manager the entire team along with officials was presented a memento each on behalf of Infosys.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh said: “Emerging winners of the Under 20 I-League is a fantastic achievement by Pune FC. Infosys, Pune is proud to be associated with the team, which has shown professional excellence in the way it has executed the game plan by winning all its games! I congratulate each and every player on this stellar achievement and wish the team more success in the years to come.”

Pune FC in their run to the title remained undefeated in the nine games they played in the group (at Mumbai) and final phase (at Kalyani, West Bengal) respectively. Overall Pune FC scored 29 goals and conceded just five to emerge as the first club to win the title with an all-win record.

Commending the win, Mr. Tanna said, “It’s a good achievement and also had special mention for Infosys for the support they have extended.”

Speaking on the future of players, Mr. Choudhury explained, “Winning certainly projects a success story, but the ultimate aim that I envision for any youth player is to strive further and make winning a habit.”

“Players need to replicate the good form shown, while given the opportunity to play for the senior team.”

Pune FC midfielder Nikhil Kadam the top scored for the club this season, in his address felt, “all-round support is necessary to excel. At Pune FC my story revolves around every single contribution be it my fellow players, coaches, management and back office staff.”

- Under-20 I-League Champions – Remained undefeated in the tournament
- PDFA Super Division – Finished runners-Up, losing title by 1 point
- VOBA Major KP Jadhav Trophy – Winners
- Pune FC U-19s played 35 matches and lost 4.
